So, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I’m single (yet again). While previous years have resulted in a wine-fueled, high-calorie pity party, I feel way too good to let this holiday get me down this year. I’ve come up with a cool list of fun things to do if you’re single on Valentine’s Day (or if you’re in a relationship but refuse to give in to this Hallmark Holiday!). Here are some fun ideas that will let you actually enjoy the day without feeling sorry for yourself:

- Throw a fun singles-only party. Invite all your single friends and ask them to bring a single friend of the opposite gender. Have everyone dress in red, and serve chocolate and sexy drinks (try a Pomegranate Martini or a Sex on the Beach).
- Alternately, you could also hold an anti-Valentine’s Day party. Invite over your single friends, tell them to dress in black, and try to drown your singleton sorrows in delicious cocktails.
- Give yourself a spa day. Whether it’s a mani-pedi or long massage, treating yourself and relaxing will keep your mind off Singles Awareness Day.
- Try tackling a new recipe you’ve been meaning to try. The more complicated, the better. Invite a friend to join you or enjoy on your own.
- Have a girls/guys night out. Go dancing, try out a trendy new restaurant (one that’s fun and not intimate enough for couples) or go to a karaoke bar. Valentine’s Day is on a Saturday this year, so there’s no reason you can’t party all night!
- Have an action movie marathon. No, seriously, rent Die Hard and The Terminator and go to town. Your first inclination may be to watch a sappy romantic comedy, but trust me, explosions and awesome fight sequences are the answer.
- Focus on making other people happy. Visit your parents and give them Valentine’s Day cards. Spend time at a nursing home with those who have lost their husbands and wives. Comfort a friend who was recently dumped with flowers. Realizing that you’re not alone and that your situation isn’t all that bad can help put the day in perspective.
- No one said Valentine’s Day just has to be about loving a significant other. Take a platonic pal out to eat and laugh as you watch couples gush over each other.
- Do something you’ve always wanted to do but have been too afraid to try. Whether it’s skydiving, participating in a local production of “The Vagina Monologues”, or booking an expensive vacation, your anticipation will make you forget that Valentine’s Day even exists!
- OK, I know it sounds cliché, but the 14th is the perfect opportunity to enjoy being single. Stay in your PJs all day, don’t shower, order take out. Make a list of reasons why it’s awesome not being tied down. No one to impress, no plans to get ready for. Enjoy it, because most likely next year you’ll be out to dinner at some stuffy restaurant.
Point is, don’t sit around and wallow in your misery of being single. Have fun! Personally, I plan on spending the day at the spa and then partying with my single girls at night. Maybe I’ll bring a Valentine home with me
Single? What do you plan on doing this V-Day?
