We have all heard the expression “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. Any food lover out there knows that nothing hits the spot or the heart like a home cooked meal made with love. I was recently planning on cooking dinner for a new love interest, so I went online to do a little research and was a little shocked by some of what I read. I found tons of articles and blogs recommending that I make an elaborate spread with lots of overly (in my opinion) romantic touches. The whole thing seemed a little forced and I couldn’t imagine my date coming to my apartment and enjoying a meal of oysters and caviar by candlelight. Maybe this works if you’re in a serious relationship or into that kind of romance, but it just didn’t seem right to me. I ended up opting for something more casual and decided that (for me at least) there are some more important factors besides romance that go into planning a meal for a man (women too! most girls wouldn’t turn down a free meal ;)).

It’s that time of year again; Springtime. If you were to search images on the internet for “springtime”, you are most certain to receive pictures of flowers, sunlight, blue sky, green grass, etc. But when I look out the window, all I see is piles of snow, decaying leaves and grass in a disgusting shade of brown, and frigid looking puddles of water scattered about. But nevertheless, the calendar says it’s springtime. And I think the biological clock instilled in all living things agree.

I finally did it - met someone online! He’s actually normal, my age, and really awesome. We had a great date last night, and are taking it to the next level this weekend: the “staying in” date. I’m cooking and we’re watching a movie, so we all know what that really means. While rifling through my movie collection trying to decide what would be the perfect film for our evening, I stumbled across a few that would just be disastrous to watch on a date. From crazy women to painfully awkward romances, I just had to laugh at how awkward it would be if I chose one of these movies.

You’ve served her a nice dinner and are ready to settle in for a movie. The question on your mind right now is, “Am I getting any tonight?” The answer might be easier to predict than you think. Movie choice says a lot about state of mind. Hit the video store and rent 3 movies, one each from category A, B, and C. Then let her choose what to watch and react accordingly. One romance rule to live by: always serve chocolate.
A. Cuddle Time
These are safe, non-threatening chick flicks. She wants romance, so be attentive, but don’t count on anything more than sweet kisses tonight. Let her control the escalation; she might surprise you. Serve hot chocolate spiked with Amaretto or Frangelico and decadent cheesecake in bite-sized pieces.

Everyone’s been there – you bought takeout a few too many times this week, picked up a few too many rounds with the dudes and impulse-purchased a pack of gum, a magazine subscription, AND a new ipod. Oops. And now, it’s Thursday night – you have a date planned and you want to impress her – but your wallet (and bank account) aren’t supporting your efforts. Full Article >>
You vacuumed the couch, stocked the fridge with snacks and finished doing the dishes and you’re just about to make a final decision between Animal House and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me for your cozy movie night in..

Dinner with Benefits
KEY
* = Specially formulated aphrodisiac ingredient
It’s now time to panic. Somehow between “How about my place?” and “8:00?,” you managed to blurt out “I’ll make you dinner.”
Sure, yeah - it was a great way to get her over to your house, which will make it a LOT easier to sleep with her later - but let’s be honest here.
The last time you cooked a meal, you cut yourself slicing up the hot dogs to add to the mac and cheese and didn’t have any milk to activate the magic powder-cheese packet, so you used water instead. Full Article >>

It’s not really that difficult to come up with a really romantic date idea - you just need a little imagination. Think about who she is and what might make her happy. If there is something that she has never done before, plan that as a date. If there is something she really liked about your first date, plan something similar. Think outside the box when planning a romantic date. Full Article >>
