We have all heard the expression “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. Any food lover out there knows that nothing hits the spot or the heart like a home cooked meal made with love. I was recently planning on cooking dinner for a new love interest, so I went online to do a little research and was a little shocked by some of what I read. I found tons of articles and blogs recommending that I make an elaborate spread with lots of overly (in my opinion) romantic touches. The whole thing seemed a little forced and I couldn’t imagine my date coming to my apartment and enjoying a meal of oysters and caviar by candlelight. Maybe this works if you’re in a serious relationship or into that kind of romance, but it just didn’t seem right to me. I ended up opting for something more casual and decided that (for me at least) there are some more important factors besides romance that go into planning a meal for a man (women too! most girls wouldn’t turn down a free meal ;)).

Something that I have done in the past with friends and think would be great for a date is making homemade sushi. It is pretty labor intensive but the combination of ingredients will pretty much taste good no matter how sloppily put together the rolls are and the activity will allow you and your date to work together. This meal also works great if one of you is a vegetarian or vegan and the other eats meat since you can make everything to order.
It’s important to make a meal you will both enjoy and feel comfortable eating. Don’t make lobster if you’re not sure how you’re going to get the thing out of the shell to eat it. Keep in mind your date’s likes and dislikes, including any food allergies or personal preferences. Comfort foods that are easy to eat and well liked by most people are a great way to go. Not only are most comfort foods easy to make, they are also down to earth, inexpensive, and will make your man feel like safe and loved.
In closing, I have two more tips. Firstly, a friend of mine made her boyfriend this chicken wing dip during a big game and he absolutely flipped his lid for it. I have tried it myself and can completely understand why - give it a try. Secondly, stay away from the asparagus
