Modern Warfare 2 is the most frustrating game EVER

February 22nd, 2010 by Dustin

Seriously is there a more frustrating game than MW2?  I don’t think I’ve ever yelled at my TV as much as I do when I play this game.  Allow me to rant for a minute here…

Okay, first off, I bought this game the first day it came out and played pretty much every day for 2 months straight.  I pretty much retired from video games years ago after I started my business (believe me, once you are running a business video games just don’t hold your interest anymore), so yes I am rusty.  And it’s true, I never really played console games once I bought a computer when I was 16.  Give me a mouse and keyboard and I can wreck fools all day on a FPS game, but the Xbox controller?  Forget about it.  HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE AIM USING THIS STUPID THING?!?  Seriously it’s impossible.  It’s so damn sensitive the slightest movement of your thumb will move your cross hair by over a foot.  That’s not good when you’re aiming at someone 30+ feet away.  And I have the sensitivity to like 3 or something out of 10.

It’s friggin stupid.  When you are really close to an enemy, the sensitivity is too low, so you can’t turn or move your aim fast enough if an enemy is moving.  So you die a lot.  But if you are aiming at someone far away, it’s way TOO sensitive.  It moves at the same speed, but when someone is far away, an inch is really 3 feet.  You get what I am saying?  I mean if you BARELY move the stick it moves at least a foot, how the hell are you supposed to hit someone?  Oh and they are probably moving.  And well you might be moving too.  It’s dumb.  If they just made it so the system dynamically adjusted the sensitivity based on distance it would probably be fine.  If I’m aiming at someone 2 feet away, make it fast.  If they are 50 feet away, well then obviously I need it to move slower right?  Stupid game designers.

Is it just me?  I mean kids these days grew up on Xbox.  They don’t know any different.  They seem to be pretty good at aiming, I mean some people are EXTREMELY good at this game.  Does it just require more practice?  I played it quite a bit, I figured I’d be really good by now.  I mean I don’t suck by any means, but I get really pissed when I see someone, aim, unload an ENTIRE friggen clip, and DON’T KILL THEM.  Then I get killed.  Really annoying.

Let me count the other ways I hate this stupid game:

- The lag.  You know what’s fun?  The fact that the stupid game doesn’t show you your ping so you have no idea how lagged a game is.  Do you realize how precise this game is?  An extra 50 ms of delay will completely ruin your game.  If I saw that I was lagging I could leave and join another game.  That is if the stupid developers let you see the ping on games so you could pick the lowest ping games.  This is one thing I miss about computer games, which always let you see this stuff so you can make informed decisions.

- The cheating whores.  There are some serious cheats in this game.  Some aren’t technically cheats, they are just lame.  For example, when 2 friends team up in death match, one letting the other kill them a bunch of times so they can get the nuke.  So stupid.  I mean are you really that pathetic?  Come on.  Then there are the actual cheats, where people can somehow get unlimited choppers, care packages, etc.  This one sucks because you don’t really know if someone is doing this or not.  You only know when it’s obvious (when someone gets multiple chopper gunners etc. in a game without a care package, yet at the end of the game they have like 20+ deaths.  Um how did you get those kill streaks dude?)  For all I know people are using this cheat all the time.  And trust me, it does exist.  I am 100% certain there is a way to get unlimited killstreak rewards, I have seen someone do it in a game and it was really annoying.

- The STUPID map selection process.  How many times do I have to play Quarry in a given play session?  What the hell?  How do maps get selected?  It’s stupid, they should let users vote on what map gets played next.  UT had this in 2000.  It’s really nice.  And you could vote players out of a game.  Can’t do that here.  Dumb.

- The stupid losers who play 16 hours a day.  Seriously how could you possibly have 10th level prestige already?  I mean how many hours do you have to play a day to get that?  I probably have averaged like 1 hour a day or so, maybe more, and am at 1st level prestige, level 51.  I would have to play literally 5 times as much.  This is annoying because the game is already really hard, but now you are competing with all these people who play all day every day.  How am I supposed to compete with that?  They should have a ‘casual gamer’ feature that matches up non-losers so the games are at least a little more fair.

I think I’m about ready to call it quits on this game.   Yeah maybe I’m just a whiny b**ch, I don’t know.  But I can’t play 5+ hours a day.  Even when I was playing a lot my skills pretty much plateaued.  The issue with aiming isn’t going away no matter how much I play.  The controller isn’t going to get less sensitive, and I’m not a damn heart surgeon.  I can’t move my right thumb in a controlled way by 1 milimeter at a time while I’m using my other hand and pressing multiple buttons at the same time.

Am I wrong here?

You’re not wrong, Modern Warfare 2 is seriously frustrating. Getting into a game is a trial in itself, and that’s just the beginning. Infinity Ward, for all the accolades it gets, still hasn’t figured out a way to cut down on cheating, and complaints keep rolling in about balance problems, from akimbo shotguns to noob-tubes. And never have mute buttons been so regularly employed. If these people are my fellow gamerzens then I bid for secession from gamerlization.

I even got frustrated playing some of the Spec Ops, because it seemed like the only time I could win was when I was so focused that I wasn’t having any fun. And of course, every single time you die, you’ve got some limey going “Blimey, ‘at were a bloody disaster, Mate! Pip-pip, ‘ave a cup ‘o tea, Govna?” Over and f@$&ing over, man.

One thing, give analog controls more time. I recently abandoned PC gaming and bought an Xbox, and the unwieldy, out-of-control feeling of the joysticks gets better the more time you spend with them. I’ve gone from hating them to feeling completely at home. But yeah, initially it’s ridiculous trying to aim a gun with your friggin’ thumb.

Okay I know this article is a few months old but what the hell. Anyways I bought Modern Warfare 2 a couple of months after it was released and I must say I am in 100% agreement with what you have said. I have the PS3 version but it’s still damn annoying. One of many things I really hate are the ass holes who run around with Marathon on, thinking their the shit and knifing everyone or using Akimbo (two hand guns, shot guns whatever…). Most of the time they’re easy to kill if you spot em right away. Or even better yet, you unload one to two clips at someone, it doesn’t phase them and they’re able to run up to you and knife you. Then on the replay it shows you’re not even firing your weapon at all. I’ve lost count of how many times that has happened.

Another thing that annoys me is if you’re shooting at someone at point blank range (say with two shot guns), it barely hurts them yet they’re able to either A: Knife you or B: shoot you once or twice and you die. I have lost count on how many times that crap happens. While I do snipe from time to time the one thing I also hate is snipers. I love how a lot of them can some how be really accurate and shoot you from clear across the damn map or in really awkward positions.

My main pet peeve though lately has been all the server issues. The host migrations, lags, closed lobbies etc… Supposedly when a game starts lagging then you get kicked out of a match is because someone in the match turned on a lag switch and thus screws the game for most of the players. I got pretty good connection and I’m wired directly to my modem / router and I have no problems with any other games (even World At War!) but this game just plain sucks balls for server connection.

I’ve seen the videos for Black Ops and it looks like it will require more skill to get kills and such and may not quite be as much cheating. I just hope that they really have made it a bit harder to cheat. Supposedly too they took out the Commando perk and Stopping Power perk. Those two perks for Modern Warfare have really pissed me off. If Black Ops doesn’t fix a lot of the crap that Modern Warfare 2 has got I am going to dump the entire Call Of Duty line all together.

I agree! I can’t stand unloading a clip into someone that hasn’t even seen you yet, and then they turn and plug you twice and you’re dead and they carry on. Or snipers that are so darn lucky or good that they can JUMP over an obstacle and peg you across the map even when you’re behind cover.

What pisses me off the most is when I run across the map to where the enemies supposedly are, don’t see any, then all of the sudden I see my teammates have taken them out and now they’re on the other side of the map, so I go there. All this time I haven’t seen a single enemy or fired a single shot, then BAM I get shot from the side or from behind. 80% of the deaths I have are from luck shots or from behind or the side. The other 20% are from boneheads that either are chucking grenades or launching them all over, or dodging a clip full of bullets only to knife me in the ass as they pass by.

Strange thing is, I have unlocked all stars on spec ops mode, and beaten the campaign on all levels. Yet I suck badly on online mode. I dominate my friend that I play spec ops with, and then in online he seems to out kill me every single time
